Two-thirds of people living in the vicinity of the czech nuclear power plants believe they have enough reliable information about the operation and safety of the plants, shows the survey from SYRI National Institute.
"About one-third of respondents, including those who did not answer the questions in questionnaires at all, are dissatisfied with the spread of information. Men generally find information more reliable than women. Those over 43 also expressed significantly higher levels of concern about the safety of nuclear power plants," said study author Anton Drobov.
Some respondents would like to see more interactivity in the provision of information, citing webinars and talks with experts as examples.
"Overall, the study indicated a need for improved the communication of risks strategies. This is one of the pillars of health risk management and one of the prerequisites for creating healthy living conditions and quality of life indicators. To put it simply, where people are scared and anxious, the health of the population deteriorates," Drobov added.
The researchers collected data from April to November 2023 among residents who have a close relationship with the Temelin or Dukovany power plants. They primarily contacted those living in the towns of Tyn nad Vltavou, Protivin, Jaromerice nad Rokytnou, Namest nad Oslavou, Ivancice and in villages in their vicinity. The main objectives of this independent study were to evaluate the attitudes of the population to information about nuclear power plants available from official sources.
