Communication, risk and uncertainty
Simon Smith is a sociologist and expert in communication studies. Between 1997 and 2012, he worked successively at the British universities of West of Scotland (Paisley), Salford and Leeds. From 2013 to 2015, he worked at the Institute of Sociology of the SAS, where he wrote a book about participatory journalism based on ethnographic research in two Bratislava newsrooms (https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-319-52965-3 ). He has been working at ISS since 2016, where he led the Narrativization of Crisis project (https://iss.fsv.cuni.cz/narrating-crisis). Within SYRI, he will focus on issues of news production, relations between journalists and scientists, or the discursive construction of crisis during the pandemic.
