The Czech population is aging and the healthcare system is not yet sufficiently prepared for this. At the same time, it faces the challenges brought by current digitalization and the advent of AI. A project by scientists from the National Institute SYRI is also intended to help make the entire system more efficient. Its main task is to strengthen data-based decision-making in the area of prevention and provision of health and social care and to prepare eHealth programs to support the health status of various population groups.

"We are analyzing the health status of the aging population in the Czech Republic and its impacts on social systems. Specifically, on health and social care spending, the labor market and other areas. The goal is also education, prevention and intervention to help reduce the incidence of civilization and mental illnesses in the Czech population," said Petr Hlaďo, who leads the project.

2 lines of research

The plan is moving in two directions. In one, an innovative eHealth system is being created that has the potential to change the organization of public health and increase its accessibility, the second line is focused on microsimulations. The modular eHealth system will help speed up interventions for doctors and social workers. Thanks to this innovation, they will no longer have to search for an IT company and spend public money unnecessarily. The system will offer tools in one place for preparing educational, preventive and intervention programs for patients and clients. Such a solution is missing on the market.

Ekonomové paralelně pracují na vývoji mikrosimulačního modelu, který pomůže predikovat zdravotní stav české populace. Podobný přístup se osvědčil v zahraničí a přispívá k lepšímu rozhodování veřejného sektoru u populace starší 50 let. Adaptace tohoto modelu do českého prostředí usnadní odhad společenských přínosů a nákladů vybraných intervencí včetně jejich dlouhodobých dopadů na kvalitu života, produktivitu a zdravotní náklady.
