The Czech Republic is one of the countries with a significant level of regional inequalities. In some areas, we observe the accumulation of economic, social and demographic difficulties. Most studies deal only with specific problems in one area, the Periphery project offers a comprehensive view of this problem from experts from various fields. Scientists will examine disadvantages in the educational, health, political, economic and communication spheres.
“Our goal is to bring knowledge about how to reduce the disadvantage of the peripheries compared to the centers and transform it into recommendations for public policies,” said SYRI’s scientific director Klára Šeďová. Experts even talk about a spatially divided Czech Republic in connection with the peripheries. “This is a phenomenon that undermines social cohesion, political stability, and the cultural and economic development of the country,” Šeďová points out.
